One NIHR West Midlands is a regional coordinating platform that helps connect research, people and impact across the West Midlands.
We bring together NIHR-funded infrastructure, NHS organisations, universities, local authorities, wider partners and local communities to support collaboration and strengthen research delivery. By working across organisational boundaries, we help ensure health and care research responds to regional needs, supports innovation, reduces inequalities and contributes to system transformation.
Together, we maximise the value of NIHR investment in the West Midlands and support NIHR’s mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation.
By connecting West Midlands NIHR infrastructure across NHS organisations, universities, local authorities and wider partners, we enable collaboration across regional and national priorities and support research across the full lifecycle. Our research helps turn discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies or services.
Our role is to strengthen alignment across the West Midlands NIHR Ecosystem, support more joined up ways of working and enhance the collective impact of our infrastructure. Through collaboration, we help to ensure that the NIHR funded research is well positioned to respond to the needs of the health and care system, support innovation and contribute to improving population health and reducing inequalities.
